It functions by obstructing the heart’s and blood vessels’ natural reactions to certain chemicals found in your body, like adrenaline. This decreases blood pressure, heart rate, and cardiac strain.

Take this medication orally, usually once or three times a day, with or immediately after a meal, as directed by your doctor. Your medical condition and response to treatment will determine the dosage.

Your doctor may advise you to begin taking this medication at a low dose and increase it gradually in order to lower your risk of experiencing side effects. Pay close attention to your doctor’s instructions.

Metoprolol tartrate should not be stopped without first consulting your doctor. Gradually stopping metoprolol tartrate may result in blood pressure and cardiac rhythm abnormalities, as well as chest pain or a heart attack. In order to help you avoid these side effects, your doctor will gradually reduce your dosage over time.

Metoprolol Tartrate may interact with other blood pressure medications (acebutolol, atenolol, bisoprolol, carteolol, esmolol, metoprolol, nadolol, nebivolol or sotalol), medicines for treating depression (isocarboxazid, linezolid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine), an ergot medicine (dihydroergotamine, ergonovine, ergotamine, methylergonovine), high blood pressure medications such as hydralazine, clonidine or prazosin; stomach ulcers medication such as cimetidine; epilepsy medication such as barbiturates; malaria medication such as mefloquine.

Individuals with diabetes, liver or kidney disease, heart rhythm issues, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) should not take metoprolol tartrate.

Overdose :

If someone has overdosed and is experiencing severe symptoms, such as unconsciousness or difficulty breathing, call 911. If not, immediately contact a poison control center.

Missed Dose : 

Try to take it at the same day every day. Do not double the dose if missed.

Storage :

Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
